Portrait by Peter Simeti
Here is my story, as told by Xander (aged 4)
My name is Josh Thompson. I'm 24 years old, and I'm a superhero. Don't ask me how it happened, I don't know. One night when there was a massive thunderstorm I went to bed, bumped my head, and when I woke up in the morning I had powers!
I can control thunder & lightning. I can run as fast as lightning, but I can also fly. Before I was a superhero I lived with my mum and dad, but that all changed when I became famous, so I went to stay at my grandparents out of town. It took a long time to get used to my powers, but my Aunt Bea and my Uncle Simon helped me.
Soon I found I had awesome skills, like my Thunder Boom, which can knock out enemies, and my Thunder Strike where I spin around and a mini whirlwind knocks things over. I can bring down lightning and use thunder to deafen, and of course my super speed means I can do almost anything the Flash can! But I learnt that sometimes being sneaky is good too, and copied Batman.
My Lightning Rod looks a little like a police truncheon, but it contains a grappling hook and has a tazer to stun enemies. After starting out with my crime-fighting, I found I tired pretty easily, so my Aunt & Uncle also made me my 'Thunder-Flyer', a small helicopter I use to get around in.
I made enemies while I've been a superhero, like Squidface and Energy-Man, but I've also made friends, Thor and Storm (of the X-Men), Batman and the Flash too! For now, I'm happy. But sometimes it gets lonely fighting super villains, so the more friends I have - the better!
Be a Thunderite with me!
